Natal
I know Natal is going to be bad. It's going to suffer from "Wii Syndrome" which is having the company promise everything and delivering around 20%. I can't imagine the interface being so precise and being able to tell where exactly each movement of your body is relative to the digital characters on screen. In addition, if they can't make the promotional video look fun, I don't think they have a chance. Refastening wheels to race cars? Really?

Ya, I just imagine this having soooo many problems... I took a class where we were looking at all the latest in recognition type technologies, and as impressive as they were none of them would be able to achieve what project natal apparently can do...
ReplyDeleteagreed. this probably doesnt work as well as real life. The idea i really cool though. Imagine being able to see your self as any sort of character? you could reenact anything.
ReplyDeletebut again, that's if it works, and who the heck wants to hold their hands out like a wheel? Well, in any case, its a cool leap in technology... im sure certain industries will take advantage of it and come out with some weird applications somewhere.
I feel the same way. This just seems unfeasible and not very fun as of now. I'm sure there would be a ton of problems with the interface, like you said, being so precise, which then defeats the purpose.
ReplyDeleteYeah, i really agree with you about that promo video. It seems like the marketing is so counterintuitive. First of all, the game play they showed was ridiculous. If a skateboarding game requires the same amount of movement and energy as actual skateboarding the system seems completely obsolete. And rotating tires should have nothing to do with the xbox.
ReplyDeleteI thought Natal looked like such bullshit. If I wanted to play any of the games that the video has like skateboarding, tennis, or basketball, I'd stop being lazy and go outside to do it. Natal seems to take away the traditional appeal of video games.
ReplyDeleteWell, there's still a massive difference between skateboarding in Natal versus outside--you don't actually have to know how to skateboard. You just learn to approximate the motions and then suddenly you're doing awesome shit. It's the same thing with standard video games--you learn the button combo and suddenly you're a kung fu master, and there's a total reward factor in that. Honestly, I don't think Natal will actually be that bad if they open up the platform to small shops and independent designers.
