Augmented Reality

I love integration. Combine my desk, refrigerator and iPhone please? It's awesome to see people taking existing hardware and transforming devices into something completely new. Having an augmented reality overlay would make sightseeing a pleasure. No ripoff tour guides and you could do it at your leisure. While the idea is great, I'm sure its real-world execution has numerous technological hurdles it has to overcome. Once it's easily viable, I would love to see this technology everywhere.

  1. Sometimes I want integration and sometimes I hate it. I think because I don't like change. But, I don't have an iPhone and I'm starting to want my music on my Blackberry so I guess that means I'm starting to want integration?

  2. It's somewhat crazy how we have our camera, phone, MP3 player, games, and a bunch of other apps in one device. But sometimes I feel like my blackberry is a jack of all trades, but a master of none. I still have my good cannon camera, my ipod, and other specific devices in addition to my bb. It's just crazy.

  3. I'm a huge fan of augmented reality apps. Besides being so practical, especially if your traveling or in a neighborhood you're not familiar with, they are just really astounding to play with and try out. I do have to say that there is a point when I need some degree of separation between my gadgets. That's why i couldnt get an iphone, i needed to be able to know that i had a choice between carrying my phone and listening to music, and getting away from email and the internet. There are moments where i need technology to be as far away from me as possible.

  4. Sarah, for your blackberry (I have one too for work purposes but still lust for an iPhone) may I suggest downloading a pandora app? I don't ever bring my ipod with me anywhere i just take headphones and plug them into my blackberry. It's not the same as having your playlists but it works on the subway anddd it leaves room for serendipity - my favorite part of pandora.

  5. I love when people find new ways to remix stuff. It makes even the dullest things interesting. I also like how you thought about the broader application of augmented reality. I never would have considered it in relation to tourism and site-seeing

  6. I also like the idea of integration, but aren't you afraid that we're seeing too much through a computer screen? I kind of wish we were out in the world more really getting in touch with what's out there, making discoveries for ourselves instead of just being delivered all the information to our computer.
